Being American Human is an independent publication covering society. American society and culture — reporting on how people actually live, work and disagree.
We publish explanatory and reported pieces for a general audience: readers who want to understand a subject properly rather than skim a summary of it. Our work is organised around the questions readers actually arrive with — what changed, what it means, what it costs, and what to do about it.
We write for an international readership, with particular attention to readers in the United States and India. Where a rule, price or practice differs by country, we say so rather than assuming one market stands in for all of them.
Every article is written or reviewed by a person before it is published. We name our sources where naming them helps the reader check our work, we link to primary material rather than to coverage of it where we can, and we correct our mistakes in the open. Advertising and sponsorship never decide what we cover or what we conclude. Commercial relationships are disclosed on the page they affect. Our advertising is served programmatically and our commercial team has no input into editorial judgements.
